As the new year is coming into full swing, many people will find that their “resolutions” are already coming to a halt. As humans, we sometimes set ourselves to ridiculous standards, believing we can make dramatic life changes with the snap of our fingers. This is a preposterous idea, seeing that we really are, only human. I love to goal set, don’t get me wrong it’s a fantastic way to set your self in the right direction, but our goals should always be things within reason of our natural capability.
Someone once told me that a therapist once told them that the greatest goals we can set for ourselves are the tiniest one. That always comes to mind when I start creating new intentions for myself. Saying “I’m going to work out 5 days a week, minimum!” is a completely unrealistic standard to set for someone who hasn’t been to a gym in 3 months. Now, I am not saying that I don’t believe their are people out there with amazing will power and ambition that get anything they set their mind to done. All I am saying, is that when you sit down and think about changes you want to start making within yourself, it is entirely okay, and even smart, to begin with small adjustments.
So if you feel like a failure in your ambitions, or like you just can’t even start working towards a new step in your life, start with goal, a tiny goal. Say, “I am going to work out twice a week,” and don’t let anything stop you from your 2 days of getting fit. Or, if you’re not a morning person, don’t make a goal to wake up an hour early and make it to the gym every morning. Be realistic with yourself. Are you going to keep up with that 3 weeks from now after a long night up? Set aside a time of the day where you’re free, like a lunch break, while your baby naps (as a nanny this is KEY), or after you get off school or work before you go home. Do what works for YOU. No one else knows you better.
So my challenge to you today is this: sit down and first write out what it is you want to accomplish. Lose 10 pounds? Read more? Eat out less? Then make your goals. Don’t start with “I am going to read 20 books this year!” Start with “I will read a minimum of 10 pages a night.” You’ll be shocked at how much you can push yourself further forward when you aren’t dreading the things you have to do to get what you want to achieve.
I know I bought tons of workout clothes for Christmas, as a way of pushing myself to the simple goal of actually just working out. You can shop this cozy, fleeced lined to actually get me out the door in the cold, look below! I encourage you to find the simple ways to push YOU toward the happiest, best version of yourself.
Racer Tights – Nike
Pro Warm Half-Zip – Nike
Epic React Flyknit Running Shoe – Nike
These are my ALL time favorite running shoes. They feel like they’re launching me off the ground, even when I’m just walking. They are so tight and basically slip on, yet are incredibly comfortable. They are sold out almost everywhere but i found them in stock here in tons of sizes and 11 colors! It’s so difficult to find running shoes that are actually cute and do the job, making these a win-win in my book.
