Whether you’re a student and about to have a spring break trip, or trapped in an office in NYC praying the snow predictions for tonight are false, I think we can all agree that it’s time for some warmth and sunshine. I for one know that I can’t wait to pull out all the white denim and flowy dresses and trade my snow boots in for sandals. It’s the time that people start taking their first beach vacations of the year and with that of course, comes the dreaded moment of putting on a swimsuit and facing the world in our pasty winter skin.
I grew up spending hours and hours laying out by the pool trying to get that bronzed-goddess glow we all strive for, but as I have gotten older I have begun to care a lot more about the long term effects of what the sun does to my skin. And although you would never find me at a tanning salon, I finally decided to give self tanner a try. I am so excited to share my new tanning routine with y’all cause guys, it is so good and mind-blowingly easy.
If you know me well, you know I have incredibly sensitive skin and am allergic to just about everything. Finding a self tanner that not only worked, but was vegan and sensitive skin safe was not an easy task. That being said, I am so glad I heard about Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Water.
The simplest of applications, it sprays on clear, like water! I have been using the green bottle which is the medium shade. I use it at night before bed and wash it off in the shower the next morning (it doesn’t stain clothes or sheets). I do this after having exfoliated my skin the morning of or day before with a good body scrub (I just bought a cheap brown sugar scrub at Target). I spray it all over, section by section, starting with my legs then up to my torso and arms. After spritzing a few times in each area, I rub it around with a Tan Applicator Mitt as to make sure it’s even and to help prevent my hands from turning orange. Make sure to not get your skin wet for several hours after application to let it soak in. I have never had an experience where it didn’t come out even and glowing, and can’t say enough good things about this product! I reapply about once a week. *After use be sure to wash off the bottoms of your feet as you are standing in all the residue and don’t want to end up with bright orange bottoms of your feet. Trust me I’ve been there, rookie mistake lol.
I did try it out on my face as well, I was really hoping it was a one item works for all kind of thing, but my face did have a slight reaction, which is super common for me. If you don’t have super sensitive skin I do suggest trying it on on your face though! I decided to try the Self Tanning Drops that Isle of Paradise offers instead. They are just as, if not more, simple than the spray. You apply a few drops (anywhere from 2-12) to your daily moisturizer and mix together in your hands. Then you spread it all over your face and on you neck just as you would your every day face lotion! Make sure to rub into your eyebrows and hairline to not create white lines around those areas. I also rubbed mine onto my lips to make sure there wasn’t a white section around my mouth. I started with 4 drops, as I am naturally tan, but have found the perfect shade for me is with about 6 or 7 drops of the medium color (green bottle). I exfoliate my skin right before use, with an exfoliating mask. I do this 2-3 times a week just adding it into my nightly routine, as I use lots of face masks and skin care products that pull the color out of my face quicker than the rest of my body. Make SURE to wash your hands well after, and get inbetween your fingers. Your hands, like your feet, will come out darker than the rest of your skin. It is currently only sold at Sephora and sold out online, but you can find them in most Sephora stores still and they will restock soon!
I truly love this combo and will probably be using it year round to keep this gorgeous bronze tone I’ve become so fond of. Hope this helps out anyone looking for a natural looking spring glow! All products linked below.
